Apprenticeships

WV Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist : a training program for people who are employed in early care and education programs. Persons must complete 3,200 to 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and 300 hours of course work and related assignments in order to receive certification. Apprentices attend four semesters of course work. A semester consists of 15 weeks, with one three-hour class each week. Typically, course work is offered during fall and spring semesters. Apprentices are assigned approximately 2 hours of related laboratory work each week. Apprentices earn a salary and may receive incremental wage increases while in the program.

(State Training and Registry System): A comprehensive continuum of specialized training and career mobility for all early care and education practitioners including home and center based child care for all ages, parent educators, regulators and trainers.
