Marcy Whitebook, the Founding Executive Director of the Center for the Child Care Workforce and now the Director of the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment, UC Berkeley's Institute of Industrial Relations, recently released this paper that reviews the scientific research literature about the relationship between teacher preparation and child outcome in early care and education. She highlights that BA Degrees are Best for Pre-K Teachers.

"Planning a Compensation Initiaitve - Feb 2005" (PDF)
This report provides an overview of compensation initiatives around the nation, focusing in particular on key policy and design issues for early childhood system planners to consider in crafting a Hawaii compensation and quality initiative. Evaluation findings from the initiatives are also discussed. The report includes design recommendations for a Hawaii initiative, along with an action plan for launching such an initiative as part of a coordinated approach to developing a coherent system of high-quality early care and education.
