AFT early childhood educator, Robert Leonard Johnson, developed an amazing desire and interest in teaching and helping others to obtain their goals at a young age.  For a neighbor with special needs, Robert served as a tutor.  He spent much of his recreational time away from friends and taught his neighbor the letters of the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colors.  He knew even at a young age just how important the early years are in a child's education.

This love for helping others continued throughout his adult life.  His is currently a pre-kindergarten teacher at Lafayette Elementary in the DC Public Schools.  In addition to full-time teaching, Mr. Johnson established the girls and boys' basketball teams at his school, where he serves as the head coach. He has 29 years of experience in early childhood education. Like most educators, he has a passion for helping young children exceed not only in the classroom but in life.
