What's New? |
On Feb 1, President Obama released his fiscal year (FY) 2011 budget requests. The President's budget is the first step in the federal budget process. Congress can use the President's budget as a blueprint but they must decide how funds should be spent and how much on each program - so the actual final budget for FY 2011 will not be completed until later in the year. This budget includes funding for Early Learning Challenge Funds, Promise Neighborhoods, Community Learning Centers, Head Start, and Child Care and Development Fund.
The largest annual meeting of early childhood educators held by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) was held in Washington, DC on Nov. 18-21, 2009. For the fourth year in a row, thousands of NAEYC attendees signed the AFT's Worthy Wage Day quilts, which are delivered to Capitol Hill on May 1st (Worthy Wage Day) to urge elected representatives to funnel more money into early childhood education programs such as Head Start, and career and wage ladder legislation to supplement the field's low wages and encourage workers to attain additional education and training.
This month's newsletter features information on early learning councils, early childhood development and resources for your work as an early childhood educator.
